Where to Start

So, you've decided you want to start comping. Now, where do you start? Everybody is different, so you will need to find the way that is right for you. If you want to enter the maximum amount of competitions in the time you have available it makes sense to follow some comping websites. The only one I use is Loquax which has hundreds of competitions finishing every day. There are other websites around, but I find the Loquax community very friendly and helpful, plus there is a great tracking system so you know which competitions you have already entered.

There are several Comping Magazines that you can subscribe to. I do subscribe to Simply Prizes, but there are so many competitions that are easy to find on the internet that unless you fancy having a magazine to read then this isn't really necessary, It has articles, advice and some in-house comps so it is a good read.

Another thing that will save you hours of time and enable you to enter loads more competitions is a "form filler" called Roboform. Just to warn you, this is a free trial but it was so worthwhile that I have ended up purchasing it. You set it up with your details and whenever there is a form to fill in (it helps with registration to other things, not just competitions!) you just click a button and it is all filled in. Occasionally it can put the wrong info in the boxes so don't just blindly click submit on your form, but it saves typing out your address a zillion times! Also it saves all your logins as you will need to register to lots of websites with competitions on and Roboform can save all of these logins or even randomly generate passwords.

Next, to enter the maximum amount of competitions you will want to sign up to Facebook and Twitter. Loads of competitions on Facebook and Twitter have very low entries and require little effort to enter. I would recommend creating a separate account just for comping or you will lose all your real friends by spamming competition entries onto their walls!

I don't enter any "text to enter" competitions as there are so many free ones that I don't see the need. I do enter a few Postcard comps so obviously if you want to do those you will need a nice stock of brightly coloured postcards. These can easily be found on the internet or some photo printing sites can print postcards from your own photos, which look great!

ok, you are now ready to start comping!
